Big Bike Revival – unlock the joy of cycling at Linskill

By | Events

Big Bike Revival – few things in life are better than a cycle ride, whether it’s to visit friends, a daily commute or a trip into the countryside – but it can be hard to get started. Around 42% of people in the UK own bikes but don’t ever use them – maybe  because the bike has a flat tyre and no idea how to repair it, maybe lacking in confidence or the the skills and knowledge to ride safely. The Big Bike Revival is all about overcoming those little barriers and to help you feel more confident about cycling. The programme is entering its fifth year with events across the country providing free cycle checks, servicing, cycle maintenance workshops, cycle training and accompanied rides.

At Linskill we are working with WatBike to organise a series of free and fun activities throughout July to encourage beginners and those returning to cycling to get on their bike,  learn basics and go out on short led rides around the local area to build confidence and meet other like minded people.

Big Bike Revival activities – bikes available to use or bring your own bike

Thursday 4th July              10am-12noon    Back in the Saddle (bike basics, check bike set up and skills test)

Thursday 11th July             1-3pm                  *Heritage Trail (led-bike ride around local places of interest, 6-10 miles)

Thursday 18th July            6-8pm                 *Coastal Cycle (led-bike ride up the coast, 10-15 miles)

Thursday 25th July            10am-12noon    Bike Clinic (bike check and maintenance workshop)

All activities are free – suitable for new cyclists and those returning to cycling

Bring your own bike along fro the guided bike rides (WatBike will have a few bikes available for activities).

*Cyclists on led-bike rides must be over 12 years of age

To reserve a place email sandra@linskill.org (please indicate which activity or activities you wish to attend) or simply turn up on the day at the designated time.

Linskill Book Fair – thousands of books up for grabs!

By | Events

This year the ever popular Linskill Book Fair will run from Friday 17th May until Sunday 19th May, providing plenty of opportunity to pop down and buy some books. Our team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to collect and collate the thousands of donated books into genres, hopefully to make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for.

This year there will be a new ‘Treasures Section’ featuring a number of identified collectable books, which will be on sale at prices reflecting their researched value.

Also new to the Book Fair this year will be a sensory free hour from 10-11am on the Sunday morning.

On Saturday 18th May there will be storytelling sessions with Chris Bostock: a session at 11am for under 8 years and a session at 1pm for over 8 years (entry fee £2.50).

Book Fair – recognise a photograph?

By | Latest News

Every year when our volunteers start checking and collating books for the Book Fair, they inevitably find a range of photographs that have been inserted into the pages of books, possibly used as bookmarks or put there for safe-keeping and then forgotten about. Our volunteer team are keen to return these photographs to their rightful owners as they appreciate many photographs reflect key moments in time and may hold fond memories for their owners or family members.

Using the power of social media we are hoping the photos in this gallery will be recognised – so if any of the above images belong to you please email claireh@linskill.org.
