Tyneside Winter Wonderland would not be complete without the Yuletide Lodge and we welcome back this festive tipi for its third year with a range of planned activities, including a music quiz and live music late into the evenings. From Friday to Sunday the Yuletide Tipi will be serving its usual festive offerings of mulled wine, hot chocolate and marshmallows to roast on the open fire. The Linskill engAGE project was launched in 2016 to provide opportunities for the older community (55+) to share and learn new skills, keep active and healthy, and make new friends. The Woolies is one of the latest groups to join the engAGE programme and it all started because someone wanted to learn how to crochet. The Trust is delighted that the Sensory Room at the Linskill Centre has been chosen for the next round of the Co-op Local Community Fund. This means Co-op Members can choose the cause to give their 1% to when they spend on selected own-brand products and services and this could be the Linskill Centre. Tyneside Winter Wonderland – Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December

Tyneside Winter Wonderland is back for a third year of festive family fun over three days!

Friday 30th November (3-6pm)

Winter Wonderland will open on Friday 30th November from 3-6pm with fairground rides, *Children’s Christmas Party (4.30-6.30pm) and the ever popular Yuletide Tipi (see below).

Saturday 1st (11am-5pm) and Sunday 2nd December (11am-4pm)

Over the weekend there will be a family-orientated fun programme including *Santa’s Grotto and an Elves Workshop, featuring festive crafts.

The Festive Farm Yard is open on Saturday and Sunday featuring sheep, geese, goats and smaller fluffy animals, so the children can see them up close and learn all about them from their handlers.

Christmas Stalls – there will be an array of festive stalls in Trevelyan Hall over the Saturday and Sunday from crafts, food, gifts, clothing to travel ideas.

Entertainment in the form of singing, music and dance performances from local groups (see below).

Linskill is supporting Wear Red Day 2018

Linskill is supporting Show Racism the Red Card’s annual ‘Wear Red Day’ by encouraging staff, tenants and visitors to wear something red and make a donation. Wear Red Day will take place on Friday 19th October and it is a national day of action to encourage schools, businesses & individuals to wear red and donate £1 to help facilitate the delivery of anti-racism education for young people & adults throughout England, Scotland & Wales. For just £5, Show Racism the Red Card can educate one child for a whole day and every penny raised during WRD enables the campaign to work with more young people and adults across the UK to challenge racism in society.

The engAGE programme at Linskill is supporting the Age Takes Centre Stage 2018 with a series of events organised for during October. There will be a celebration of National Poetry Day on Thursday October 4th at 11am with local poet Harry Gallagher (Northern Lights) who will be performing a selection of his work (£3 entry). Fire Safety in the Home is a free information session with Tyne and Wear Fire Service on Tuesday 9th October from 1-2pm. For more information on the programme please click here.

Fit for Frank – a fantastic effort

Thanks to all of our community for the support and generosity shown for Fit for Frank. You can see from the images it was a great day with everyone getting involved to raise funds for Frank’s Fight against Neuroblastoma. We have collected and counted the sponsorship money and donations and delighted to confirm to date we have raised £2,186 for Frank’s Fight against Neuroblastoma. A big thank you to all of our community for a great effort.

Linskill Chase

The popular Linskill Chase returns on Saturday 27th October with a new route around the haunted school and promises to be the scariest yet. For one night only the Linskill will be divided into four themed zones, each more terrifying than the last and inhabited with clowns and zombies, so you won’t know what is around each darkened corner.

The evening is split into thirty minute sessions, starting at 6pm and running through to midnight for the final run. Linskill Chase tickets are now on sale priced £7.95 and available from reception or online through Eventbrite (search for Linskill 2018 and please note a booking fee will apply).

Our first ever fitness fundraiser on Wednesday 26th September is designed for the community to try new activities, get active and show support for Franks Fight against Neuroblastoma, by raising funds for pioneering treatment in the USA to help prevent relapse of Neuroblastoma. Frank attends our nursery and having been diagnosed in February 2018 with high risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, he is responding well to the very invasive treatment. Frank still has a lot more treatment to go including radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Neuroblastoma has a high relapse rate and £200k is required so that Frank can receive pioneering treatment in America, which is designed to stop the cancer returning. Read More

Teddy Bears Picnic at Linskill (Under 5’s)

Bring your favourite teddy bear and picnic blanket and join the Teddys Bear Picnic at the Linskill Centre on Saturday 15th September, starting at 10.30am until 12.30pm. This fun event for children under 5 years of age will start with singing and dancing, teddy bear trail around the centre, arts and crafts, face painting and a special teddy bear packed-lunch to share with new found friends. A Teddy Bear Hospital will be available for those well-loved and used teddy bears that may be in need of some running repairs including small tears, new eye or an ear stitching back on – so the bears can be returned to their owners as good as new.
