The Linskill Centre in North Shields is calling out to the community for donations of books in preparation for their Book Fair running from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th May. This annual fundraising event has proved to be very popular in the past, attracting hundreds of people looking to replenish their reading list, pick up a bargain, or even find a ‘collectable’ whilst supporting their local community centre.

The Book Fair is organised by the volunteers at Linskill who kindly give their time to collate, classify and prepare the books for sale. The volunteers are now eagerly waiting to receive donations of books and they can be old, new, fact, fiction, hard or soft back to help build up the necessary stocks for the Book Fair.

Previous book fairs have seen over 40,000 second-hand books donated and this year with the help of the community we want to exceed that total and need books of all shapes, sizes and topics. Take a look in your cupboards, attics and bookshelves and if you have any books that are gathering dust, unwanted presents, or no longer required please bring along to the Linskill Centre and we can find a new home for them.

Art, biographies, cookery, fiction, crime, geography, gardening, travel, health, poetry, fitness, sociology, psychology, history and children’s books are just a few of the book types donated to date and the more diverse the topics the better to appeal to a wider audience. There will be a small section of records and DVDs for sale and these can also be donated, provided they are in good condition.

Simeon Ripley, Chief Executive of the Linskill Centre commented, ‘The Book Fair is a hugely important event for Linskill as it not only brings the community together but generates essential funds for the Linskill. Last year was a record breaking year and the Book Fair raised nearly £5000 with every pound being reinvested into the running of the Linskill Centre and its community activities.’

All donations from individuals, households or organisations will be gratefully received and can be left at the Linskill Reception during opening hours from Monday to Sunday. If you have a query on how and when to donate books simply call 0191 257 8000 and speak to our team.
